We are pleased to announce that we have joined forces with Cancer Research UK to help highlight the power of gifts in Wills in saving lives.
We will now provide the charity’s Free Will Service, where we will offer free support to people aged over 18 who wish to write or update their Will. This includes giving guidance to people considering leaving a legacy gift to Cancer Research UK.
Gifts in Wills fund over a third of the charity’s life-saving research. Without them, Cancer Research UK would not be able to undertake the vital research that will one day beat cancer for patients in Altrincham and across the UK. Research has come a long way, but cannot rest while people still suffer. That’s why Cancer Research UK is committed to ensuring 3 in 4 people diagnosed with this disease will survive for 10 years or more in 2034.
Many of us have friends or family who have been affected by this devastating disease, so we are proud to offer this important free service. Together with clients’ pledges and ours, we will beat cancer for future generations.
A legacy gift can be anything someone wishes to leave in their Will. Traditionally this is money, but it could be anything that has a monetary value such as a specific item. Gifts in Wills fund science, leading to discoveries which cannot be unmade and progress which cannot be undone. Each breakthrough inspires the next until the day comes when nobody loses a loved one to cancer.
Together with their supporters, Cancer Research UK has played a role in developing 8 out the world’s top 10 cancer drugs; helped prove the link between tobacco and cancer, preventing millions of deaths worldwide; and were a key player in the development of radiotherapy, which benefits more than 130,000 patients every year in the UK.
To give examples of how gifts in Wills help:
- 2% of a £200,000 estate could buy a diamond knife to slice through cells to understand the inner workings of tumours and find new ways to target cancer’s weak spots.
- £7,000 could fund the Add Aspirin clinical trial into stopping cancer coming back after treatment for one week.
- £1,000 could buy imaging software that scientists use to film cells in real time, helping to test potentially lifesaving treatments and find promising new cancer drugs
Gifts in Wills really do make a difference.
The charity’s Free Will Service has been running successfully for over 20 years across a network of solicitors nationwide. People using the service are asked to consider leaving a legacy gift to Cancer Research UK but are under no obligation to do so.
